Age: 21

Sign: Taurus

Craft(s): Songwriting, Production

1. What is the SteeloSoul series?

The SteeloSoul series are my thoughts in a nutshell. The project is a non cohesive body of work that shows my life at its most vulnerable. It an expression that lives aren’t just in one place at one time: they’re everywhere. I’m trying to show the people that I’m human too.

2. Tell us a little bit about West Oak? How did it start? Who does it comprise of?

WestOak is a Company I brought together in Denton, TX. I called Jared (@aunixthewolf) about a meeting to set up a team of people who work and do things together musically. He then called Evan (@Evan_DJones), who called Blake (@blake_cris) and Aaron (@Chemztat), and we all had a sit down. We came up with the name based on the street we recorded on: West Oak Street.Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

3. What’s your most favorite and least favorite part of being an artist in the music industry?

My favorite part is the collaborations: The different minds that come together to make a beautiful vision come to life. I love it because it makes me believe that anything is possible. My least favorite part is the politics of course. I won’t go into it much, but I know a lot of things go on behind the scenes.

4. Where have you been deriving your inspiration from lately?

To be honest, a lot of inspiration has been coming from my girlfriend, Kiki. She has really been lighting a fire in me. Besides being my favorite person in the world, she motivates me to get up and keep working on the dream. Also, my musical family here in Denton inspire me everyday in different ways.unnamed (1)

5. Kids Next Door or Rocket Power?

Easy: Otto was much cooler than Numbah 1.

6. Who is in your music rotation right now?

Tame Impala, Caravan Palace, Anderson. Paak, The Black Keys, Vince Staples, Kanye West (Always), Hiatus Kaiyote, Childish Gambino, Corinne Bailey Rae, Joyce Wrice, and Joey BadA$$.

  1. When did you realize you were interested in art?

I think like most artists I had enjoyed anything art and crafty from a young age. I was lucky enough to have gone to schools with amazing teachers who all went out of their way to support and encourage my passion.

  1. How does fantasy play a part in your art?

Fantasy plays a large part in my work. When I was younger I struggled a lot with anxiety and Fantasy novels and video games were of a great inspiration to me. I would create different worlds and cultures and characters which would help me escape my own head for a while which gave me great relief and helped me relax.

  1. cloud buttsWhat Influences you and where do you get your inspiration?

From a young age I was inspired by the land and traditional dress of many different cultures which had a desert, or hot and worn environment. I would constantly be reading books influenced by these places or watching movies such as Aladdin or The Princess and the Cobbler.

I have been heavily inspired by video games. The Legend of Zelda has always been my favorite game. From the story the creators built, the different tribes and lands to the kooky characters and their costumes. Everything about it used to inspire me and get my brain cooking up different ideas of how I could make my own worlds and the characters that would live within it.

  1. How much does culture play a part in your work?bechaz_ashlea_day of the sun

I would say that culture was probably the first and main inspiration for me. As I said earlier I had a keen interest in the traditional dress of many different cultures and as I have grown I have learned a lot more about these places and their people.

While I don’t study costume and environment as much as I used to, they are always at the base of every drawing I make. These days I try to look less to reference and try to challenge myself to see what I can concoct in my own mind.

  1. Who are your top 5 favorite artists?

My top 5 favorite artists are (totally typical, I know) Salvador Dali, Moebius, JAW Cooper and Nimasprout.

  1. If you could work with anyone dead or alive who would it be?

I think I would enjoy working with JAW Cooper. She is amazing and I think I could learn a lot from her.

7.What impact do you wish to leave with your art?

I hope that some day I can help some other person escape their mind for a bit, and make their day a bit happier and inspire them to create their own worlds and people in whatever craft they are drawn to.

One Wise Woman - See no foul energy , Hear no foul energy , Speak no foul Energy . 36 X 22

  1. Where did you get your artist name?

There once was a search engine named Askjeeves.com, which is now Ask.com. A high school friend gave me the nickname Sheeeves because of it. I could’ve easily just called myself Sheeves but it looked cooler with 3 E’s for some reason.

  1. How often do you create

I’m not an artist who creates daily… just mostly when I’m inspired, I’m easily inspired though. But if I’m not creating for myself I’m creating for others so give or take 7/10.

  1. How often do you read your horoscope?

I read my horoscope daily I’m into astrology.

  1. What’s the last book you read?

Zen by Daniel Levin

  1. When did you realize you were interested in art?

I watched a lot of Disney growing up, I loved the line work especially in Aladdin & Mulan. But I’ve been drawing since 4, Disney inspired me to be a creator, since I could only draw what was seen as a child. I wanted to be a cartoonist over all artist positions because it requires full creativity. Muva earf dpi

  1. What message do you try to communicate with your art?

I’ve come to a point where I don’t want a concrete message to come from my art, art is infinite, and its how others may perceive or translate it. So why should I tie it down with one meaning unless it’s obvious that I should have one meaning. But what if I don’t want it to be that obvious? What if I want to challenge the viewer to see beyond the obvious? The thing that gives titles meaning is the importance behind it, meaning that there’s only going to be one meaning for it.

  1. What inspires you?

Everything, the curve of something or sharp edge to something else, contrast intrigues me, refined objects, color, bold lines, intricacy. Literally any small thing can make me want to create I’m a Virgo and we’re into details and all small stuff in between.Unknown

  1. How is it being a female tattoo artist?

It’s not that easy working in a male dominated industry, but my talents will prevail eventually, I’m only getting better & you can’t deny talent after it reaches its plateau. I know for a while it will be the hardest thing ever to gain the respect but once I have a decade under my belt in tattooing they have no other choice but to “Respeck my name.”

  1. If you could work with anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Tupac Shakur

  1. Who’s your fashion icon?Elemental final

Cher

  1. What’s your spirit animal

Pheonix

  1. Who are your favorite designers?

Phillip Lim, Lanvin, Oscar De la Renta, Givenchy

  1. How did you develop your style?

Landscapes didn’t excite me much nor did backgrounds growing up as an artist, I have this strange love for smooth lines that curve; like the ones in our fingerprints & woodgrain lines. So I ended developing this swirl design to replace backgrounds when I did portraits, because it was an effortless design to do which always flowed regardless of how I did it, so then it became my staple signature style.

  1. Can you recommend 5 artists the most people wouldn’t know about?

Parmigianino, Caravaggio, Mc Escher , Salvador Dali, Sheeeves. (I definitely named myself because I ran out and most people have never heard of me).

  15. What’s one thing you wish this generation would stop doing?

Being so engulfed in technology 85% of the time, we don’t take full advantage of experiencing life were distracted by so much.

16 What’s one thing you can’t live without?

My self expression
