Yancy E. – Now I Gotta Rap (New Release)

Yancy E. Is an upcoming DMV rapper who just recently dropped his second project titled, “Now I Gotta Rap.” The tape had a cartoon-ish feel , as if charlie brown one day decided to rap about his daily life. If Chalk Zone were to exist in 2015, then Yancy definitely took his skills back to the pavement. Produced by Yung Lysol , “Now I Gotta Rap” is a self-portrait of the new chapter that Yancy attempted to draw with only a bucket of chalk. If “Bitz’ N Bops” was his debut, then “Now I Gotta Rap” is Yancy E.’s “The Dark Night.” With this project, he really experiments more with his production while the lyrics stay true to his lifestyle and personality. It’s as if Stan Lee drew a comic about his life as an innocent bystander making appearances in super hero scenarios. My favorite song off the project was “Pussy Scoring/Tity Drop” because I liked the ferocity of the instrumental and lyrics. Maybe the rap game doesn’t need anymore super heroes, since we have people like Yancy who can create comic book-like portraits of their experiences. After experiencing an amazing tape, we believe Yancy will keep balancing on water with his Air Jesus 11s. Check out “Bitz’ N Bops” and “Now I Gotta Rap” on yancye.com, and follow him on Twitter & Instagram @yunglysol.

Aarun Simon – Reflections (New Release)

Aarun Simon is a Philadelphia based artist who is a part of LV4 productions – a Philadelphia based arts & media collective. Aarun just recently dropped a project called “Reflections.” Overall, we thought “Reflections” was an amazing project! Aarun Simon displays a mass of potential with his witty lyrics and fluid delivery, and we have a gut feeling that Poseidon isn’t done blessing the boy yet. He kind of reminds us of J.Cole back in “The Warm Up” days, pouring his soul onto a canvas like BAsquiat painting his own self-portrait of the man in the mirror. The ‘reflection’ (pun intended)  that we show people on a daily basis needs to be properly checked and balanced, because we never know when it just might consume us. Simons does a great job at analyzing his own personal reflection within his own timeline, swan-diving head-on into a never-ending abyss of daily struggles, and emerging from the depths as a wiser man who is ready to take on the world. We’re excited to find out what else Aarun and the rest of LV4 has in-store for us in the near future.

Floating Forest- Exploration EP

We have stumbled upon the smooth sounds of Floating Forest, an artist out of Seattle Washington. His electronic beats make you feel as if you are exploring the nature of an extraterrestrial world. His sound personally reminds me of if a early 2k Cool Kids did the sound track for Star Treck. His most current project Exploration EP can be heard on his Soundcloud and bought on his Bandcamp for only $2 and he already has more coming! Check him out!
